Age of Empires 3 Post 3

This post, as you might know if you read Post 2  this post is about the Portuguese and the Spanish, and there are units that you probably haven’t heard of because they are the unique units and the Royal Guard Units. There is also another team (because it’s not a civilization) called: The Knights of St. John.

PORTUGUESE

  • Civilization Bonus : Free Covered Wagon every age (Covered Wagon builds Town Centre)
  • Unique Units: Cassador, Organ Gun.
  • Home City:  Lisbon
  • Royal Guard Units : Guerreiro Musketeer, Jinete Dragoon, Rebaulds (Organ Gun)

UNIQUE UNITS (MILITARY)

Cassador/Cacadore

This unit is very similar to the Musketeer, but has a stronger attack and less hitpoints. I do not know much about this unit, and there is not much information on the Cacadore. If you want to see the page for yourself, check the link here to see it.

Organ Gun (Artillery)

The Organ Gun is a six barreled artillery unit that can shoot multiple projectiles into a large area making the artillery piece very useful for clearing out many enemy infantry units quickly. But because the Organ Gun fires many missiles into a large area it doesn’t have a direct attack which makes it less potent against an enemy’s buildings. The Organ Gun can be upgraded at the Artillery Foundry into Rebaulds, increasing their attack power. Organ Guns are very good at large scale battles (due to them being like shotgun cannons), their bullets spreading into the enemy forces, damaging many units at a time.

SPANISH

  • Civilization Bonus: Less experience is required for each home city shipment.
  • Unique Units: Lancer, Rodelero, Missionary, and War Dog.
  • Home City: Seville
  • Royal Guard Units: Tecio Pikemen, Garrochista Lancer, Espada Rodelero

UNIQUE UNITS (MILITARY)

 Lancer

Is a cavalry unit that uses a lance to attack infantry and archers. It can be recruited from a stable or a fort in the Fortress Age, or from the consulate (level 40 Japanese home city) in the Imperial Age. Unlike most cavalry which are weak against mêlée infantry units, the lancer has a large bonus against infantry. It is somewhat at a disadvantage when fighting other cavalry however. Its speed also makes it efficient for slaughtering enemy settlers or villagers who stray too far off from the town center, and lancers can quickly kill most explorers due to their classification as infantry.

Rodelero

Is a Spanish and Knights of St. John Heavy Infantry unit in Age of Empires III; first available in the Colonial Age. Outfitted with a sword and buckler they move more quickly than most other Heavy Infantry and, like other melee infantry, are good against Cavalry. Their speed makes them more efficient at cutting down fleeing cavalry than Pikemen, though they have a slightly smaller bonus. They are also capable of combating enemy infantry units, though light infantry will defeat them easily due to their range. As with all infantry artillery is also a threat.

War Dogs

Are a Spanish unique unit in Age of Empires III and can only be trained by the Explorer. They can be rescued at some treasure sites by other civilizations, but only the Spanish can train them or use cards which specifically boost them. They do not count towards population but there is a limit on how many can be trained at a time. The Spanish receive 1 War Dog at the start of each battle and can train up to 4 more.

UNIQUE UNITS (NON-MILITARY)

Missionary

Serves as a basic healing unit for civilizations who acquire it by means of cards, though only the Spanish civilization can train them at the church. The unction card (added with The WarChiefsexpansion) allows a level 40 Spanish home city to give their missionaries an aura boosting nearby units damage output. Missionaries are the fastest healing units in the game even without the speed upgrade mission fervor, and one of the fastest land units in the game with the upgrade. They are capable of healing ten hit points per second.

Paintstjohnflag.png THE KNIGHTS OF ST. JOHN

Best Units: Morgan’s Flagship, Rodeleros, Lizzie’s Flagship, Lizzie’s Buccaneers (with Corselet), Lancer,Hussar, Morgan Black, Elisabet Ramsey, Falconet, Priest and the Highlander.

The Knights of St. John are a campaign civilization that is only available for play in either the story mode of Age of Empires III or custom scenarios made from the Scenario Editor. The Knights of St. John, though based in Malta, are in many ways very similar to the Spanish civilization because they have similar architectural styles, units, and Home City but speak the English language. Thus The Knights of St. John are essentially a mix of the two.

UNIQUE UNIT (MILITARY UNIT)

Hoop Thrower

The hoop thrower throws, of all things, burning rings (hoops) at the enemy. It is classified as a Heavy Infantry/Siege Trooper unit (like the Grenadier) and can be recruited from the Artillery Foundry in Act I: Blood (with Morgan Black and the Knights of St. John). The Hoop Thrower is effective against the Ottoman Janissary unit. This unit is only available to scenarios and campaigns in Age of Empires III. Only the Knights of St. John can train this unit.

So know you know about 3 civilizations instead of the promised 2. So test the top 2 (Not The Knights of St. John) and tell me what you think of them.
